Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
Buzz - Real weak unfounded arguement that is. If he had stayed with us this season with all the injuries we've had at centre back he would have no doubt got some game time, then he could have had that experience at the top level, and looking at Reid since he's come back I'd say that Burke could have held his place down.

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
I fails to see how it can have harmed him in any way, its not all about on felid performances, tits the complete package of being a 1st team player and dealing with everything that, that throws at you - good on Reece, good luck son, you deserve it, nice lad as well.

>>> You think this loan to Bradford has done him harm? Not a pop I'm interested to know as you appear to not be a fan of it?

I don't actually know if the loan to Bradford has done him harm or benefit - it would be very hard for anyone to know honestly, because you're comparing alternate versions of the same player (one of which is purely theoretical). So most of the claims that loans are good seem to be based on absolutely no genuine evidence whatsoever (as so little is genuinely available). I can only speak generally to what I think the disadvantages are of long loans for young players (there are some possible positives too).

- Key development is basically ceded to smaller clubs with lower grade coaching and facilities and actually less interest in the healthy development of a player.
- From what I understand, there's a recent school of thought that players generally develop through training and not through match experience (which is the whole point of loans).
- There's absolutely no basis that I know of for valuing appearances made at a lower level, or whether they make a player more able to play at a higher one.
- Some players flourish on these loans and others fester, and this may be down to good or bad luck or lack of synergy with the club or the league or the style of play. Rather than the talent of the player to succeed at the parent club, which is the most important thing.
- It may be that the loan itself destabilises and demotivates the player and also hurts their loyalty to the parent club.
- Even those that succeed on loan seem to be guaranteed very little in terms of future prospects at the parent club.
- I doubt the actual intention of sending players on loan. I think it may often be simply to avoid having to deal with a player who will take work to develop, or to force the hand of owners to buy more senior options for squad places in the transfer market, or simply a received wisdom that 'it's what you do with young players' without any thought of what it is actually trying to achieve.

Neville, Scholes, Giggs and Butt were NOT loaned out. LVG isn't loaning out this latest crop either by the looks of it...meanwhile, we send our best youngsters to Bradford.

I am a fan of the loan system

I bet it will be difficult to prove otherwise?

Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
defoe only clicked when he went to bournemouth at the age of err 18 I think;
Harry Mong face was shunted around orient; leicester; norwich and the 'wall and he's not turned out too bad

I think its much better than the glorified training matches they play in the U21's...

No, he actually didn't.

Alex V isn't a fan.

Make up your own minds who knows more about player development

I said on here before that he should have stayed with us, he is the natural partner for Ogbonna moving forward.

Btw, are man Utd loaning Rashford out?

I should stay off these loan threads I know. I've had my say, now everyone can get back to saying how wonderful it is that we ship our brightest talents off to the lower leagues rather than undertaking the crucial part of their development ourselves.

It was obvious a year ago he was ready to play at Prem level or thereabouts. Hopefully a year at a lower level hasn't set him back too much.

No but his next contract is the most important one. As per Goldie the max length of contract we could give him when he turned 17, was for 2 years. So he's under contract until December 2017.

Nagel 12:41 Wed Apr 27
Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
No Eddie. That's only the case with young players who haven't yet signed a pro contract. Oxford did this on his 17th birthday in December.

Eddie B 12:17 Wed Apr 27
Re: Reece Burke - Bradford player awards
As Burke is a bit older, he's definitely a WHU player, but , as I understand it, Oxford could fuck off whenever he likes to another club. Is that correct?
